ISO 45001 DRAFT AND EXPECTED RELEASE DATE:

ISO 45001 Safety Management Standard is due to be released late 2017! You may have heard recently from your Sustainable Certification auditor or from on the Internet we were expecting the release of the first ISO Safety Standard – ISO 45001. It is anticipated this standard will replace AS/NZS 4801:2001 and OHSAS 18001.

The recent draft version has been withdrawn (following over 3000 comments received) with an expected new draft release date of Feb/March 2017 with a final release date expected in November 2017. We anticipate there will be a transitional period of up to 3 years, to allow for changes to be implemented under the new version, after the revised standard becomes effective.

One of the primary reasons for the change is to vastly improve clarity, so that you can interpret the standard and its requirements much easier and develop a greater understanding of the standards.

The other major reason for the change in this standard is that over time, organisations will find it easier to integrate all their separate management systems into one because of a common underlying framework. We wanted to give you a heads up and are currently working on the impact from these changes.

We are just a phone call away and do not hesitate to telephone for any queries or concerns you may have regarding these changes and will readily answer any questions you may have to the best of our knowledge.

The ISO 45001 Standard is expected to be aligned with the recently revised ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 : 2015 Standards which is expected to make integration between the three much easier to achieve. The expected structure will be:

  • 1 . Scope
  • 2 . Normative References
  • 3 . Terms and Definitions
  • 4 . Context of the Organisation
  • 5 . Leadership
  • 6 . Planning
  • 7 . Support
  • 8 . Operation
  • 9 . Performance evaluation
  • 10 . Continual Improvement
